Rockstar Games Spending Minimum of $150 Million on Massive GTA 6 Marketing Campaign
A political dispute between Miami-Dade County commissioners and Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s administration has offered a rare glimpse into Rockstar Games' financial planning, indicating that the studio is committing upwards of $150 million exclusively to global marketing for Grand Theft Auto 6.

However, several commissioners pushed back against the initiative:
Commissioner Rene Garcia questioned the county's financial return, noting that his team's research revealed Rockstar is allocating at least $150 million to marketing while Miami-Dade only secured an initial $975,000 contract.
The $975,000 deal, executed by chief of staff Christopher Hudtwalcker with the Miami Heat and Rockstar, places a massive "Welcome to Vice City" sign atop the Kaseya Center for seven months of nationally televised NBA games.
Because the contract remained just shy of the $1 million threshold, it bypassed mandatory county commission approval, prompting accusations of circumvention from officials like Commissioner Roberto Gonzalez.
Nearby municipalities negotiated separate, higher-yielding terms, including up to $1.2 million for six temporary banners in the City of Miami and up to $4 million for beachfront equipment signage in Miami Beach.
In response, the mayor’s office maintained that the rooftop agreement aligns with market standards, citing comparable revenue models from an unexecuted 2026 FIFA World Cup proposal.
A marketing budget exceeding $150 million places GTA 6 on par with the largest blockbuster film releases in history, underscoring the massive cultural footprint Take-Two Interactive expects when players return to Vice City.
